GUIDELINES FOR PAYMENT AGREEMENTS
|
Below are the guidelines, which the tax office uses in issuing payment agreements for current year only. Individuals who wish to set up a payment agreement with the City Tax Office must meet these requirements.
If you do not meet the minimum requirements you can continue to make payments without a formal contract. However, this will not prevent the City from exercising its option to proceed with legal action, if necessary, to collect delinquent taxes.
Our office will accept any payment you wish to make towards your balance.
-
Taxpayers, who have defaulted on a contract for last year’s taxes, will not be eligible for current tax year contract.
-
Contracts are only given on accounts, which have a delinquent balance of $1,000 or above.
-
The account balance must be for current year taxes only (prior years paid in full) and contract must be processed before April 1st for personal property or before July 1st for real property. Contract for prior years must be set up through the law firm after paying one third of the total delinquent balance.
-
Taxpayer must pay ten percent (10%) of balance, on real property, any time before contract is initiated, and twenty percent (20%) on personal property accounts.
-
Property Owner must sign a Financial Hardship form.
-
If total amount of delinquency is greater than $10,000, then it must be pre-approved by Tax Assessor/Collector, and final approval from City Manager.
-
On contracts with both Real and Personal Property, payments will first be applied to Personal Property accounts, including down payment.
-
A lawsuit may not exist on property. If so, please contact the law offices of Delgado, Acosta, Spencer, Linebarger, Heard & Perez, LLP, Attorneys at Law, (915) 545-5481.
-
Maximum length of contract is 12 months for real property and 9 months for personal property accounts.
NOTE: PER STATE LAW, PENALTY & INTEREST ACCRUES EVERY FIRST OF THE MONTH, ON ANY UNPAID LEVY BALANCE.
Contracts are processed only after delinquency date, from mid February through June 30th.
Property Owners wishing to set up a payment agreement can visit our office, Customer Service Dept, Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 6 pm.
