The Crimes Against Children Section is comprised of 12 highly trained and dedicated detectives and 3 supervisors. The Section is tasked with the investigation of various crimes committed against children, including but not limited to sexual and injury offenses. CAC Detectives receive on-going specialized training in child abuse investigations, which includes child forensic interviewing. The Detectives and Sergeants have attended many intensive training courses, both locally and through out the country. The Unit is supervised by two sergeants and a lieutenant. CAC investigates both long and short-term abuse cases utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, collaborating routinely with several different agencies. The unit works closely with Child Protective Services, the District and County Attorneys’ Offices, the Sheriff’s Office and other outside agencies. CAC is housed at the Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso, which is a private non-profit organization that advocates for child victims of abuse. The ACCEP (the Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso) is a child-oriented facility in which investigating agencies work together to put the child’s best interest first, and reduce the number of times a child is interviewed.
The following is a list of offenses the Crimes Against Children Section investigates: CAC operates during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but has call-out teams available for 24 hour response, if certain criteria are met.
