PROMOTIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIES
The following lists are the study materials that firefighters and medics must study in order to prepare for promotional testing. Promotional exams are usually administered every two years. Firefighters and medics must purchase their own study materials and generally study when they are off duty.

Firefighters and Medics are placed on a promotional list according to their overall score from the promotional exam. A maximum of seven seniority points are added to the final score. Battalion Chiefs and above also include an Assessment Center that counts for between 50 to 60 percent of their overall final score.
